First Plane in Texas, Built in Keene

 

Keene was once the aviation capital of Texas. A replica of “Old Soggy No. 1” –the first airplane built in Texas which was constructed in Keene in 1911 by Floyd H. “Slats” Rogers.  A replica of “Old Soggy” hangs in the lobby of the SWAU Hopps Museum. It was given in honor of R. C. “Doc” Hausinger, an aviation enthusiast who took flying lessons from Rogers and built the first airplane hanger in Keene.
