FAQ's

 

1)      What is Distance Learning? 

The program is Southwestern’s answer to a growing need among adults to earn a college degree. You may earn a: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business Administration, or an Associate of Science.

 

2)      Who should enroll in Distance Learning?

  • Young adults who haven’t yet completed a college degree
  • Homemakers with family responsibilities who can not go back to school full-time
  • Job holders who can not attend daytime classes
  • The physically challenged
  • Graduates who would like to earn a different degree or advance their career
  • Associate degree holders who want to complete a four-year degree
  • Senior citizens and people who want to grow intellectually

3) Who can enroll?  You must be:

      1.  Accepted into the University

      2.  At least 22 years old

      3.  Able to handle independent study
           and give 20 hours per week to
           the program

      4.  Prepared to cover tuition costs

      5.  A proficient English speaker

      6.  See the Admission Requirements

 

4)  How long do I have to complete my degree?

You may register as a part-time or full-time students. Your semester is a 6-month period. Some students have completed 18, 24, 30, even 36 hours in a year. Remember, 128 hours is minimum for graduation with the bachelor’s degree.

 

5)      What is an Admission Seminar?

It is a required, one-week seminar during which you will:

1.      Build your own portfolio to prove the skills and knowledge you’ve acquired outside the formal classroom.

2.      Learn how to write a college research paper and how to best use the library

3.      Gain good study habits and learn how to study for tests

4.      Learn about financial aid for Distance Learning students

5.      Set up your degree completion plan, choose a major and minor, and meet your teachers

6.      Write your life story

7.      Gain speaking and writing skills

 

6)      What are the classes like?

You will work with teachers in these ways:

1.      Your instructors are full-time employees (in most cases) at Southwestern Adventist University

2.      The instructor will give you a basic syllabus or outline for class

3.      Your instructor will talk with you about how to study for the class

4.      Your instructor will keep a close watch on your progress through letters, phone calls, e-mail, quizzes, tests, reports, research papers, and final exams

 

7)      What can I take through Distance Learning
