Southwestern Fund
The Southwestern Fund is the lifeblood of Southwestern Adventist University. It supports every aspect of Southwestern's mission - from providing student scholarships to strengthening spiritual and academic programming. Undesignated gifts to the Southwestern Fund are directed to the areas of greatest need.
Chan Shun Centennial Library
Dedicated in 1994, Southwestern's library boasts a soaring, four-story building, crowned by a clock tower and observation room. From the library's dome patrons have an unsurpassed view of Johnson County's environs, with 50-mile visibility on clear days. The library commemorates the University's founding in 1894, and is a place for students to conduct extensive research, study in private rooms, and provides a quiet place for concentration. The university library houses the Ellen G. White Research Center as well.
Endowments
A gift to an endowment is a gift that keeps on giving. The principal amount and the earnings from interest are used toward the endowment designation. Donors may establish an endowment of their own or contribute to a currently existing endowment that provides for such things as scholarships, plant maintenance, or department chairs.
Honors Program
The Honors Program at Southwestern is designed to foster an intellectually challenging environment and provide a richer educational experience for qualified students. This curriculum explores the human search for an understanding of one's relationship to self, nature, and God. Students accepted into the Honors Program are designated as Honors Students and must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.4.
Hopps Museum & Welcome Center
The Hopps Museum & Welcome Center is primarily a community/visitor center with a warm ambiance. The 4,000 square feet, two-story facility is filled with eclectic exhibits which include periodic displays of private collections as well as historic items dating from the university and town's beginnings in 1893. The museum also accommodates private receptions and meetings.
Pechero Hall
The newest building on campus, Pechero Hall enhances the academic environment of Southwestern's campus. This 5.2 million dollar project is 31,500 square feet, contains two large amphitheatre-style lecture halls, nine classrooms, and 20 faculty offices, as well as conference rooms, an educational media center, computer lab, and several meeting rooms. Pechero Hall houses the education, psychology, modern languages, business, and social science departments.
Southwestern Acrobatics Team (SWAT)
As part of the physical education department, Southwestern's acrobatic team performs its various skills and routines at many different locations, recruiting for the university. Not only that, but the team helps students draw closer to Christ through physical activity and healthy lifestyles. SWAT coaches and PE staff prepare the team to encourage and teach others how to benefit from healthful living and sport.
Student Financial Aid
Many students cannot cover their tuition through student loans and work wages alone. Student financial aid provides assistance and scholarships for those students who need extra help.
Studios at Southwestern
Studios at Southwestern is very important to the teaching and instruction of Radio/TV Film majors at Southwestern. The studios are there in order to give students the opportunity to practice what they have been learning in the classroom. It is here that they are able to experience hands-on training with lighting and cameras.
Thomsen Observatory
Founded in 1984 through the generosity of many Southwestern alumni, the observatory's name honors the memory of Dr. Eugene V. Thomsen. It was recently rededicated and was updated with a fresh look and new telescope. Southwestern hopes to purchase additional technology in order to reestablish regular star watches for the university and community every Friday night.
