Bible Bee Guidelines

1. The idea originated with The National Bible Bee. Since 2007, The National Bible Bee has been hosting regional and national contests on Bible memorization.  Elementary and high school students memorize up to 400 verses to compete for cash prizes.  For more information on The National Bible Bee, go to biblebee.org.  The results have been so exciting that we wanted to do something similar at the college level for Christian education.

2. Instead of being asked to spell a word, contestants will be given a Bible text to recite.  The event will consist of three rounds.  The first round will be written with everyone submitting the same texts.  Successful completion of a round will advance a contestant to the next.

3. First, second, and third prizes of $5,000, $3,000, and $1,000 respectively will be awarded in the form of scholarships.  Each scholarship is valid at Southwestern Adventist University only and is not transferable.

4. Participation this year is limited to current Southwestern students.  All students can compete, but those who will not attend Southwestern Adventist University after this year won't be able to use the scholarship.

6. Our theme this year is the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of Seventh-day Adventists.  On this site you will find a list of verses.  There are five passages for each of the 28 beliefs for a total of 240 verses.  The contest is slated for early April.  With that in mind, our goal is “Two-A-Day” for the next 120 days.

7. The verses are taken from the 1984 edition of the NIV Bible.  The NIV Bible varies some between editions, so be sure to study from the posted texts. If you have a recent NIV Bible, it will have some word changes.
