Pastoral staff of the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church recently presented a Week of Spiritual Emphasis at Southwestern Adventist University. The theme “God’s Grace in the Life of…” focused on Bible characters like Nicodemus, Thomas (the doubter), Gideon, Peter and Paul. Pastors talked about real life struggles these characters faced, although they are often put on the pedestal of holiness “This was a chance for the local pastors to express their passion for God and share how Christ impacts their lives,” said Jeron Holloway, student chaplain. Careful planning placed this week at the beginning of the school year. “Blessings are already evident after this week of spiritual emphasis, because we have been able to make Christ the focus on our campus.”

Lane Campbell, the University Chaplain said, “We want Southwestern students to sense that this is a spiritual place, and be compelled to get involved in spiritual programs offered here.”

Amanda King, a sophomore at Southwestern said, “The pastors helped me to see the Bible characters as real people, through the struggles they went through when learning to trust in Jesus.” Throughout the week, students shared their testimonies, led out in praise songs, gave special music, and also performed small skits. Daily prayers were offered for student missionaries and taskforce workers. Jessica Clegg, a journalism student says, “I appreciated the interpretation of ‘Amazing Grace’ by Devon Adams. Her special music was amazing, and it really touched me.” Another student, Dina Randrianasolo said that she was touched by the testimonies, because she can see the difference that Jesus has made in their lives. “We want students to see that Christ is our only hope for success and to know that He will help in whatever problems arise during the school year,” said Holloway.
