The first annual SWAU BrainGames challenged the students from the Southwestern Union with math and science-focused games and contests. Teams participated from Valley Grande Academy, Ozark Adventist Academy, Sandia View Academy, Jefferson Christian Academy, and Chisholm Trail Academy.

The four day event included mathletics, a gravity-powered softball launcher contest, a tour through the Committee of 100 Greenhouse which houses a Aquaponics system.  SWAU also hosted the BrainGames trip to the Dallas World Aquarium and the Museum of Natural History in Fort Worth.

Several presentations were made by faculty about the science and math opportunities at the University. Art Chadwick, professor of biology and Larry Turner, director of institutional effectiveness, shared information about the Wyoming Hanson Ranch dinosaur bone excavation and research that takes place each summer. Richard McCluskey, professor of biology, offered the group options for national and international biology field school tours.

The event concluded with the gravity launcher contest, which was won by Jefferson Christian Academy. Valley Grande Academy claimed the winning spot in the Mathletics games. Trophies were presented, and the groups headed back to their schools.  SWAU plans to host BrainGames 2005 January 13-16.
