Dale Heinrich Scholarship

David Harrington, a junior pre-medical student at Southwestern Adventist University, was the recipient of the Dale Heinrich Scholarship.  The scholarship was established in 1986 in memory of Dale Heinrich, who was born on February 26, 1961.  He displayed a love and affinity for music at an early ate.  He was a 1979 graduate of Chisholm Trail Academy and attended Southwestern as a communication major.

In the fall of 1985,  he began playing for services at the First United Methodist Church of Joshua. Riding home on his motorcycle one Sunday  evening following supper given by his friends at the Methodist church, he was hit by a car. On Monday, February 17, 1986, Dale died.

Before the funeral his family requested that friends make donations for a scholarship in memory instead of sending flowers. The Scholarship has one of the longest lists of individual donors of any Southwestern scholarship. Those who wish to contribute to the Dale Heinrich Scholarship or other scholarships can learn more about making a gift through this website.

Harrington recently gave a honorary recital to express his gratitude to the family of Dale Heinrich. Piano Pieces performed included “La Campanella,” by Liszt; and “Scherzo No.3, Op. 39,” by Chopin.  Harrington was joined by soprano, Sarai Soto in “Caro Mio Ben,” by Giordani; and “I Talked to God,” by Guion.

Harrington is the 19th person to receive this scholarship.  He plans to graduate from Southwestern in May 2005.
