Imagine 30,000 square feet of Italian travertine marble. Notice the beams of African cherry wood and 4,535 organ pipes that launch upward to the ceiling. Stare at the four tiers of seats, and find a place among the 2,061 other guests.  No need to just imagine this concert hall, because on Sunday, January 23, 2005, the Music Festival concert will be held in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, in Dallas, Texas.

“We held a concert at the Meyerson for the first time in 1993, as a celebration of the SWAU centennial anniversary,” said David Anavitarte, chair of the Fine Arts department. “Now the final Music Festival concert is held at the Meyerson every 2 years.”  This architectural wonder, world renown for acoustics and beauty, will host the musical talents of about 500 students from the Southwestern Union academies and SWAU. “The stages are designed to accommodate large performing forces of vocalists and instrumentalists combined,” said Tim Scholl, piano instructor, “yet the superb acoustics allow the softest nuances to be heard clearly from every seat in the hall.”

The Meyerson is one of the finest concert halls in the world, and home to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra among other performing ensembles from Dallas. “I will always remember the two concerts when I sang with the choir,” said Alexis Franklin, senior journalism major. “I have never seen such a beautiful performance hall,”

As the academies make plans to attend Music Festival at SWAU, clinicians notice the students rising to a higher level of learning, “knowing the hours of practicing will end with a concert at the world famous Meyerson,” said Terri Seiler, SWAU Band director.  “Musicians across the country would love the chance to perform at the Meyerson.”
