Dr. John Boyd will be featured in a concert of his music this Thursday evening in Wharton Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
Soloists include Steve Hubbard on trumpet, Dr. Sam Hood on flute, Rogerio Nunes on violin, and Jonathan Wall, Elizabeth Cortes and Makala James on vocals. Trent Muse will perform Boyd's Piano Suite which was composed for Muse's junior recital. Dr. Meg Griffith will premiere Variations on Carnival of Venice on her flute. This was composed just for her.
There will be a wide variety of music, sacred to romantic to engagingly modern. Several will be the premieres, including a finale written for this concert for violin and two flutes.
Dr. Boyd taught at Southwestern Adventist University for seventeen years, continuing as an active composer after his retiring in 2015. He is a Professor Emeritus at SWAU.
He is excited to be collaborating with musical friends, old and new, including two former students.
