Unlock the mysteries of the universe! At Southwestern Adventist University, we have outstanding teacher to student ratios that give you a high level of interaction with highly qualified professors who always make time for you and provide work opportunities within the department.

With a degree from the Department of Mathematics and Physical Science, you will develop critical and creative thinking skills that will enhance success in graduate school as well as in your own:

  • Medical or dental office
  • Research laboratory
  • Classroom

Become a part of the critical science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields as their global significance continues to expand.

As the Department of Mathematics and Physical Science, our aims are to help you:

  1. Gain an understanding of basic mathematics and its application to solving problems expressible by algebraic equations and inequalities.
  2. Understand the fundamental concepts of mathematics so that you can teach the subject on the elementary or secondary level.
  3. Develop a solid foundation in the area of mathematics, which will prepare you to pursue further studies in mathematics, the physical sciences, economics and the engineering sciences.

The aim of the chemistry program is to help you develop the ability to think critically and creatively. The chemistry curriculum is designed to provide you with a strong background in the areas of:

  • Organic chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Analytical chemistry
  • Physical chemistry

A major part of the Chemistry program will serve as a solid foundation upon which you can build a professional career or a more specialized graduate program.

Bachelor of Arts vs. Bachelor of Science
Each degree provides a different focus in the area of study a student wants to pursue. Here is an overview of the differences between the degrees:

  • Specialized education in a major
  • Requires more credits within the area of study
  • Fewer chances to take classes outside a major
  • Broader focus in a major
  • Requires more liberal art subjects
  • Allows students to mold their education to their interests
