Unlock the mysteries of the universe!  Outstanding teacher/student ratios give you lots of interaction with highly-qualified professors who always make time for their students and provide work opportunities within the department.  Develop critical and creative thinking skills that will enhance success in graduate school as well as in your own medical or dental office, research laboratory, or classroom.  Become a part of the critical science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields as their global significance continues to expand.

Students trained as secondary school teachers of Mathematics will receive the prepa- ration needed to inspire a new generation to pursue a wide range careers in which high-level mathematical skills are crucial. Currently, there is a shortage of graduates with this kind of academic preparation. National interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) areas has highlighted the need for graduates with this kind of academic preparation.

Job Outlook
Employment of high school teachers is expected to grow by seven percent from 2010 to 2020, slower than the average for all occupations. Overall growth is expected due to declines in student-to-teacher ratios and increases in enrollment. However, employment growth will vary by region. It should also be noted that these trends are also in influenced by academic major.

Earning potential is also affected by geographic location and by whether one pursues a career in industry, academia or in a government-related organization. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, which is a part of the United States Department of Labor, reports that the 2015 median pay for high school teachers was $57,200 per year.

Educational Qualifications
Bachelor degree candidates are generally qualified for entry-level positions in most career fields. Getting a graduate or professional degree will significantly increase the earning potential of the holder of a first degree.
