Notice of Student Right
You have the right to request a Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation, a non-mandoatory, non-binding evaluation of a student's self-reported criminal history. In addition, the agency obtains your name-based Texas history information. The service is provided to students for a non-refundable fee. The student will receive an evaluation letter by email from agency staff advising of potential ineligibility for educator certification.
Students are eligible to request a Preliminary Criminial History Evaluation if:
- You enrolled or plan to enroll in an education preparation program, or
- You are planning to take a certification exam for initial education certification, and
- You have reason to believe that you may be ineligible for education certification due to a conviction or deferred adjudication for a felony or misdemeanor offense.
There is a non-refundable fee of $50 for a Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation, payable by credit card.
