Music Festival & A Night at the Meyerson Event

Music (B.A.)

Southwestern Adventist University's Department of Music provides comprehensive study on music theory, history, pedagogy, conducting, composition, literature and performance. Our students receive opportunities to frequently participate in masterclasses presented by Southwestern faculty and guest artists as well as the opportunities to perform in recitals on a monthly basis. Southwestern's choral & instrumental ensembles provide our students with the opportunity to perform a vast array of music from classical masterworks to modern compositions in both large ensembles and small chamber groups. Each year Southwestern is represented by their ensembles internationally, providing our students with rich musical and cultural experiences.

The B.A. in Music is designed for students who are double majors.

Music (B.Mus.)

The B.Mus is a professional degree designed for students seeking a career in performance or for those students pursuing a graduate degree in music.

Music Education (B.M.E.)

Southwestern Adventist University’s Department of Music provides comprehensive study on music theory, history, pedagogy, conducting, composition, literature and performance. Our students receive opportunities to frequently participate in masterclasses presented by Southwestern faculty and guest artists as well as the opportunities to perform in recitals on a monthly basis. Southwestern’s choral & instrumental ensembles provide our students with the opportunity to perform a vast array of music from classical masterworks to modern compositions in both large ensembles and small chamber groups. Each year Southwestern is represented by their ensembles internationally, providing our students with rich musical and cultural experiences.

The B.M.E. is a professional degree for students who are preparing to be music educators. Completion of curriculum and testing will provide students with both Texas State and North American Division teaching certification (K-12).

Your Future

Careers

Many graduates work as teachers in elementary and secondary education, college or university. Graduates may also have careers in performance, composition, church music and private studio instruction. Music education opportunities are readily available each year. Performance opportunities are highly competitive. Elite performers have a significant advantage in pursuing a career in music.
