The FAFSA is your gateway to federal and state financial aid, including grants, loans, and work-study. At Southwestern Adventist University, submitting the FAFSA is a key part of making your education more affordable.
What Is the FAFSA?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a federal form that determines your eligibility for financial aid, such as:
- Pell Grants
- Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans
- Work-Study
- State Grants and Scholarships
At SWAU, we also use the FAFSA to determine some types of institutional aid.
School Code: 003619

FAFSA Simplification: What Changed?
The FAFSA Simplification Act introduced a streamlined version of the form, making it easier for families to apply. Key changes include:
- A shorter, more user-friendly application
- Fewer questions and more automatic data transfers from the IRS
- Replacement of the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) with the Student Aid Index (SAI)
- Updates to how multiple students in college are considered
These changes may impact your federal aid eligibility, but they do not affect how SWAU calculates your need-based institutional aid.
