Who Can Work On Campus?
Working on campus is a great way to earn money, build professional skills, and stay engaged in the SWAU community. Whether through Federal Work-Study or other campus jobs, student employment provides valuable experience and support for your educational journey.
Students are eligible to work on campus if they meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled in at least six credit hours
- Completed at least Step 5 of the registration process
Jobs are available across campus, from tutoring and office support to media production, groundskeeping, and the Dinosaur Science Museum. Every role helps keep SWAU running and gives you a chance to grow outside the classroom.
How to Apply for a Job
Apply online through the campus job board or contact departments directly to inquire about available roles. We recommend applying early, especially before the semester begins, as positions can fill quickly.

Types of Student Employment at SWAU
Federal Work-Study
A need-based program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Eligibility is determined by submitting the FAFSA.
- Students may work on campus or as reading/math tutors in local Keene elementary schools.
- Jobs pay at least the federal minimum wage.
- Paychecks are distributed monthly through the Department of Business and Financial Services.
- Awards average $2,500 per year and are earned through hourly work, not applied directly to tuition.
To be considered, check the Work-Study box on your FAFSA. Awards are first-come, first-served for eligible students.
Texas Work-Study
A state-sponsored program for Texas residents with financial needs.
- Students work in on-campus positions.
- Pay is distributed monthly through the Department of Business and Financial Services.
- Eligibility is based on FAFSA results and program funding availability.
Campus Employment (Non-Work-Study)
You do not have to qualify for Federal or State Work-Study to get a job on campus. Many departments offer hourly positions to any student meeting the credit-hour and registration requirements.
What You Should Know
- Paychecks can be applied directly to your tuition or cashed out and picked up at the business office.
- Job flexibility allows you to work around your class schedule—most students work 8–12 hours per week.
- Skills matter—you can apply based on your interests, availability, and talents.
- No penalty if you do not earn the full amount of your award or decide not to work.
