KEENE, Texas — Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) is celebrating a significant achievement as 100% of its May 2026 nursing graduates passed the NCLEX-RN examination.

The milestone reflects sustained strong NCLEX performance among the Nursing Department’s last seven graduating cohorts and highlights the dedication of SWAU nursing students, faculty, staff, clinical partners, and the broader university community.

“This outstanding accomplishment for the Class of 2026 is a direct result of their dedication, perseverance, and hard work,” said Dr. Kerrie Kimbrow, chair of the Nursing Department at Southwestern Adventist University. “It also reflects the commitment of our nursing faculty, who invest in our students every day, from their first fundamentals course to their final capstone experience, ensuring they are well prepared for the NCLEX and for meaningful careers in nursing.”

The NCLEX-RN is the national licensure examination used to assess whether nursing graduates possess the knowledge, abilities, and clinical judgment necessary for safe and effective entry-level nursing practice. The examination includes clinical scenarios and case studies designed to evaluate candidates’ ability to apply nursing knowledge and make sound clinical decisions.

Beyond preparing students for licensure, SWAU’s Nursing Department places a strong emphasis on student retention, academic support, and individual success. Since 2020, the department has maintained annual student retention rates above 90%, reflecting an intentional approach to supporting students throughout their nursing education.

“We are grateful for our outstanding clinical partners,” said Kimbrow. “We also have a supportive university and local community, and a strong network of individuals who contribute to our students’ success throughout their educational journey. It is truly a team effort to graduate this caliber of nurses.”

The achievement comes during a period of continued growth for nursing education at Southwestern Adventist University. SWAU has expanded opportunities for nurses at multiple stages of their careers through its Master of Science in Nursing Education program, Graduate Nurse Educator Certificate, and the SWAU-AdventHealth Southwest Region International ELL Nursing Pathway Program. The department has also invested in hands-on learning environments, including a renovated pediatric simulation suite made possible through the generous support of the Powell family.

For SWAU nursing alumna and current MSN student Laura Gallardo, the support students receive extends beyond preparation for a single examination.

“I wholeheartedly recommend this program to other students,” said Gallardo. “The faculty is incredibly supportive and genuinely invested in you. Having also completed my undergraduate BSN through SWAU, I can confidently say they set you up for success.”

The 100% NCLEX-RN pass rate represents more than an academic milestone for Southwestern Adventist University.
